It is a government protected nature reserve and is part of Parque Nacional Cotubanamá. The Island is known for its beaches, and has been used on a number of occasions by film-makers and advertisers looking for a stereotypical “deserted island” setting for their film or product.
CATALINA is a tropical island located 1.5 miles from the mainland on the south-east corner of the Dominican Republic, near La Altagracia and La Romana. It is a small uninhabited island perfect to relax and enjoy the tropical fish in its turquoise waters. It is considered one of the best diving and snorkeling points in the country and even in the Caribbean.
